The start of something new
Welcome to "The Early Days - A Little History," where I share the story of how my powerlifting and fitness journey began. Discover what first ignited my passion, the obstacles I faced, and the unexpected path that led me to where I am today. It’s never too late to start, and I hope my experiences inspire you.

The history of my lifting life
My interest in powerlifting and fitness wasn't an instant revelation; it evolved from a necessity. The very first memory that sparked this journey was the growing difficulty I faced with everyday tasks, such as tying my own shoelaces. This seemingly simple action had become a struggle due to a noticeable lack of flexibility, mobility, and general unfitness. It was a clear sign that I needed a change, and that's when I set about seeking a way to improve myself.

Overcoming the early challenges
Thinking back to when I first started, one big challenge I faced was the decline in my physical capabilities as I matured in age. Simple everyday tasks, like tying my own shoelaces, were becoming difficult due to a lack of flexibility, mobility, and generally being unfit. I was determined to improve myself. This realisation prompted me to seek out ways to regain my physical independence and strength.

It is never too late to start
I hope readers will take away a profound understanding that it is never too late to start your lifting or fitness journey. It is crucial to maintain a level of fitness as we age, as this ultimately dictates how capable we remain as parents or grandparents. My story is a testament to the fact that with determination, significant improvements in quality of life are always within reach.
"My initial goal wasn't powerlifting; it was simply to regain my mobility and strength to tackle everyday life with ease."

The Early Days - A Little History
The following is a bit of history from when my powerlifting journey came to be my main hobby.....
Early 2023
For a while my body weight has slowly weight had increased to a little over 124KG. That's over 19 stone for the not so metric folk who may be reading this. Everyday tasks that I was taking for granted were becoming increasingly difficult to achieve. The simple action of bending down to tie my shoe laces was becoming hard work. The extra timber I was carrying to put it bluntly was getting in the way & the extra weight my body was carrying was taking its toll on my body.
I will admit this was all self induced & I blame no one but myself. Up until my early 30's I led a very active life playing team sports mainly football & basketball. Representing my school & the various Army regiments I was assigned in each of these sports. I was in the REME so was posted every 3 years or so. I even played for Slough Town Basketball in the very early days!
In a nutshell I let myself go & I needed to do something about. Hence the title 'Shoelaces to Welsh records'
